The Libraries

As part of the launch of the Love Libraries campaign in March 2006, three libraries were transformed over a period of 12 weeks. See the finished results and learn how they have changed for the better.

Coldharbour library

Coldharbour Library

The library was a bland 1960's box. It was in desperate need of redecoration, both inside and out, to get rid of its dowdy appearance. There was a large car park and a small garden that runs around the building which had the potential to be an excellent reading environment if worked upon.

Newquay library

Newquay Library

The library building was a grizzly glass palace with a dated look and a 1960's feel. Opened in 1962 by John Betjeman, Newquay Library in its heyday was an example of cutting edge contemporary design. The makeover has moved it into the 21st century.

Coldharbour library

Richmond Library

Richmond library was built in 1880 making it one of the oldest public libraries in London. The library's significance as a heritage building is recognised in its status as a Grade 2 listed building. It is located at the heart of Richmond in the historic setting of Richmond Green.
