Love Libraries hosts a celebration day for the winners of the top ten young librarians competition
At the celebration day, held in September, the top ten young librarians were each awarded with certificates commending their work in public libraries.
Launched in April, the national competition aimed to find and celebrate the top ten young librarians, who are making a difference in our libraries through their innovation, passion and commitment to the public library service.
The winning librarians include:
• Jen Bakewell, 27, Staffordshire Library Service
• Cheney Gardner, 28, London Borough of Lewisham Library Service
• Anthony Hopkins, 26, London Borough of Merton Library Service
• Jake Hope, 27, Lancashire County Library and Information Service
• Lucy Kitchener, 28, Wiltshire Library Service
• Sandeep Mahal, 28, Sandwell Library Service
• Richard Pemberton, 26, Medway Library Service
• Simon Smith, 27, Reading Borough Libraries
• Michael Stead, 26, Bolton Libraries Service
• Tabitha Witherick, 27, Somerset Libraries Service
The celebration day also featured a seminar for the librarians, offering them the opportunity to meet with fellow winners for the first time and exchange views on their vision for the future of public libraries. They explored a variety of themes and issues including: the importance of the libraries reading service; priorities for the development of future libraries and workforce development.

Young librarians award certificate
