Toys Donated to Bellfields “Little Fishes” Play Group by J.Monk & Sons

J.Monk & Sons of Guildford have always been very supportive of local community projects, so when we were approached by St Peters Shared Church, Bellfields to help out with the “Little Fishes” toddler group, we were only too pleased.

We began by sending out an appeal to our staff for the donation of toys suitable for 1-4 year olds. The response was overwhelming and the toys come tumbling in!

Bellfields is one of the most deprived areas in Surrey, so having somewhere safe for children to play and learn is a great community asset.

Beverley Lodge and Paul Bye spent a few hours with the children handing over prams, ride-on toys, dolls, a trampoline, building blocks and aprons for painting and crafting, amongst other items, and had a great time. The children were delighted to be able to help unpack the boxes and see what was inside.

Karen Collins who assists with the running of Little Fishes said, “It was really kind of J Monk & Sons to support our toddler group. We keep our attendance fees very low at just £1 per family, in order that children from underprivileged families are still able to come. Many of the toys that we have are old, and it’s hard for us to keep up with replacing broken ones because funds are very limited. To have new toys donated is brilliant and it really helps us keep things fun for the children.”

Lodge Brothers celebrate Easter

March has been a busy month with celebrations all month round. Firstly Mother's Day was celebrated in style this year with beautiful elegant window displays in honour of all the mothers who are no longer with us as well as the mothers who are. Some of  Lodge Brothers branches such as funeral directors Ashford decorated their windows using a pink-themed Mother’s Day display at the weekend .

One client brought in a card and was very grateful for having it included in the display in remembrance of her mum.

The poem “My Mother Kept a Garden” was displayed in the window which has some lovely thoughts about the caring  and nurturing nature of mothers.

St Patrick’s Day was marked on the 17th March 2016 at funeral directors Feltham

Traditionally, the day is celebrated by a visit to Church in the morning, followed by dancing and merriment when the  restrictions of Lent are lifted for one day! The display in the  window shows the Irish flag, a shamrock (hand  knitted by Pat) alongside a bottle of Guinness.

Easter is a time to celebrate with friends and family and a time to remember loved ones who have passed on. What better way to remember our loved ones than by doing something for members of the community. Sharing Easter in the community brightens so many people's day especially the elderly. Lodge Brothers funeral directors Northolt have arranged an Easter Tea Party for the residents of local nursing homes in and around the various villages.

Lodge Brothers will be there in your darkest hour of grief

Lodge Brothers funeral directors Ashford and funeral directors Woking as well as the rest of the many Lodge Brothers branches throughout the UK, are passionate about making arrangements easier and less of a burden for memorials and funeral of loved ones. They are also compassionate individuals who strive to make a difference within the community in any way possible.

Every year, Lodge Brothers funeral directors Englefield Green place a ‘Memorial Tree’ in their branch.

Families who have lost a loved one in the past year are invited to write a message on a card to them and hang it on the tree in memory.

At funeral directors Chertsey, Branch Arranger Helen Kempster and District Manager Richard Leachman (pictured) invited the local vicar to host a short service of blessing at the branch.

Here we have Cobham branch’s patriotic window display for Remembrance Day, which marked the end of World War I at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

Remembrance Day Display at G.Boutell & Son

Linda Bowyer, our Funeral Arranger at G.Boutell in Byfleet, has written a wonderful poem to display in the branch window as part of the Remembrance Day display.

Also featured are excerpts from a book entitled ‘Last Letters Home’ which show the incredible emotion felt by the servicemen that fought for our country during World War I.

Lines of poppies in a row

Easy in the breeze they blow

Soldiers, sailors, and airmen in earth they rest

Their medals clasped tightly to their chest

Winter, summer, autumn and spring

Eternal rest to all, the birds do sing

Flags at half-mast in respect fly

Old comrades in arms, they cry

Remembrance Day, November each and every year

Grateful to those we hold so dear

Eagerly the people stop to bow, low

Time to remember the fallen, tears flow
